Scrut Automation Alternatives in 2026: 6 Platforms Compared on Price, Audit and Fit

The best Scrut Automation alternatives in 2026 are SecureSlate, Sprinto, Vanta, Drata, Scytale and Hyperproof. SecureSlate wrote this guide and ranks itself first, so weigh that. We compared each platform on published or marketplace pricing, whether the audit is included, framework coverage and the practical tradeoffs, using only sourced figures.

Scrut is a well-regarded product, so the case for looking elsewhere is not that it falls short. It is about price clarity, what the price covers, and whether a risk-first GRC platform is the tool you need.

For a direct feature comparison, see SecureSlate vs Scrut. For a deeper look at Scrut alone, read our Scrut review for 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Scrut's pricing sources disagree. AWS Marketplace lists $15,000 per year for organizations up to 20 employees. Vendr reports a median of $7,250, with a range from $5,160 to $27,050. Get a written quote before you compare anything.
  • The audit is not included. Scrut prepares the audit package, but an independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report and bills separately.
  • SecureSlate is the only option here that can put the audit in the subscription. It starts at $2,688 per year on Starter, and higher plans can include one framework audit and a penetration test; see pricing.
  • Sprinto and Scytale are the closest like-for-like swaps for a startup or SMB buyer. Vanta and Drata cost more but bring larger integration catalogs than SecureSlate. Hyperproof is the move up, not across.
  • Scrut is still a strong choice if you want AI agents with human approval, an MCP server, built-in DAST and 70+ frameworks, and your quote lands near the Vendr median.

Scrut Automation in 2026: product, price and the audit question

Scrut Automation was founded in 2021 in Bengaluru and has raised $20.5M, including $10M in April 2024 from Lightspeed, MassMutual Ventures and Endiya Partners. It sells to startups and mid-market companies in healthcare, financial services and SaaS. The pitch is risk-first GRC with AI doing the legwork:

  • AI "Teammates" such as Evidence Collector and Vendor Risk Analyst, acting with human approval.
  • 150+ integrations (AWS, GitHub, Okta and others) that flag stale or missing evidence.
  • An open MCP server so you can query and file evidence from Claude, Cursor and other clients.
  • Trust Center and AI questionnaire answering.
  • DAST runtime security, launched September 30, 2025, inside the same platform.
  • 70+ frameworks, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS, SOC 1 and NIST AI RMF.

What Scrut costs

Scrut's own pricing page could not be loaded when we checked on October 13, 2026, and third-party sites classify it as quote-based. Two outside numbers exist, and they do not agree:

Source Figure Notes
AWS Marketplace $15,000 per 12 months "Compliance Automation" for organizations up to 20 employees. Non-cancellable, non-refundable.
Vendr Median $7,250 per year Range $5,160 to $27,050. No sample size or data date shown.

The Vendr median is roughly half the AWS list price, so you cannot plan a budget from either number. The AWS listing does show what Scrut treats as its entry offer: 20 employees or fewer.

Is the audit included?

No. Scrut uses a bring-your-own-auditor model. An independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report, and its fee sits outside the Scrut contract. Scrut does provide audit package preparation and an "AI Audit Center" to help that auditor work faster. If you are budgeting your first SOC 2 or ISO 27001, the real number is Scrut plus the audit firm.

Why teams shop for Scrut alternatives

The reasons people look around tend to be practical.

Unclear price. When AWS shows $15,000 and Vendr shows $7,250, buyers with a fixed budget want a vendor that publishes a number, and they need to know whether it covers the software, the auditor, or both.

The audit is a second purchase. Every year you sign two contracts: one with Scrut and one with a CPA firm. Some teams prefer one bundle.

Setup effort on integrations. Some integrations need manual setup, and initial onboarding takes time. Test sync speed during a trial.

Reporting and risk depth. If you need flexible reporting and customization, or a deep risk module, check both in a demo against your own use cases.

None of these are dealbreakers alone. They matter most when your quote lands near the AWS figure rather than the Vendr median.

1. SecureSlate

SecureSlate is a compliance automation platform built for SMBs, with a particular focus on HealthTech teams working toward SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and ISO 42001. It is the most direct answer to the two complaints above: the prices are published, and higher plans can include the audit.

Key features

  • Continuous evidence collection and control monitoring, with shared control mapping so one control can satisfy several frameworks.
  • Auto-remediation agents that fix some failing controls directly in the source system, rather than only opening a ticket.
  • Built-in security tools: DAST surface monitoring, secrets detection, dark web monitoring, code security, open-source license risk and outdated or end-of-life software detection.
  • Vendor risk, access reviews, trust center, security questionnaire automation, policy library, security awareness training and a device agent.
  • Frameworks including SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR, PCI DSS, CMMC, FedRAMP, DORA, EU AI Act and custom frameworks.

Pricing (see /pricing). Starter is $2,688 per year for up to 5 users and one framework. Higher plans add users, frameworks, automated control testing and vulnerability scanners, and can include one framework audit, a penetration test and a dedicated auditor.

Scrut's AWS listing is $15,000 for up to 20 employees with no audit. SecureSlate starts at $2,688 a year, and higher plans can bundle the audit and a pen test. Check how each vendor counts users versus employees.

Proof point. Elfie moved from Vanta to SecureSlate at about 70% lower platform cost (case study).

Best for. SMBs, especially in healthcare, wanting one annual number for software and audit.

Tradeoffs. SecureSlate is a younger brand. Its integration catalog is smaller than Vanta's or Drata's, its partner ecosystem is smaller, and some auditors will be less familiar with it than with the larger names. Scrut has a longer track record with its AI agent model.

2. Sprinto

Sprinto is the platform buyers most often put next to Scrut. Both operate from Bengaluru, both sell to startups and growing cloud companies, and both pitch heavy automation. Sprinto launched its "Autonomous Trust Platform" in March 2026.

Key features

  • Autonomous agents that refresh evidence, prepare audit artifacts and close control gaps.
  • Unified Commitments, which maps frameworks, contracts and policies into one control set.
  • Autonomous TPRM for vendor discovery, risk tiering and due diligence follow-up.
  • AI governance: discovery of AI tools and a registry mapped to ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF and the EU AI Act.
  • 300+ integrations, roughly double Scrut's 150+.

Pricing. Sprinto's own plans are "Contact sales." On AWS Marketplace (US listing), the Starter Platform for up to 100 employees is $7,500 plus $2,000 for the first framework, so $9,500 per year for one of SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, CPRA or GDPR. Vendr reports a median annual contract of $15,000.

Audit. Not included. Sprinto offers audit management and its auditor network.

Best for. First certifications needing more integrations and a 100-employee entry tier, versus Scrut's 20.

Tradeoffs. Expect a learning curve, and test integration sync timing during a trial. More in our Sprinto alternatives guide.

3. Vanta

Vanta is the category's best-known brand, with 16,000+ customers and 400+ integrations.

Key features

  • Automated evidence collection and continuous control monitoring.
  • Vanta AI Agent for drafting policies and questionnaire answers, checking evidence and mapping controls.
  • Questionnaire automation (25 per year on Plus, 144 on Professional).
  • Third-party risk management and an Auditor API.
  • 35+ frameworks, including HITRUST, FedRAMP, CMMC and the EU AI Act.

Pricing. No prices on Vanta's site. AWS Marketplace lists 12-month prices for 1 to 20 employees: Essentials $14,000, Plus $21,500, Professional $23,000. Add-ons are priced separately, for example Trust Center $6,000, Questionnaire Automation $10,000 and TPRM $13,600 for 50 vendors. Vendr reports a median of about $20,000.

Audit. Not included. Bring your own auditor or use Vanta's network. Vendr estimates a third-party SOC 2 audit at $8,000 to $25,000+.

Best for. Venture-backed SaaS where brand recognition and integration breadth outweigh cost.

Tradeoffs. Vanta Essentials ($14,000) is close to Scrut's AWS listing ($15,000), so it is not a cost-saving move. Some connectors need manual upkeep, reporting customization is limited, niche stacks may have gaps, and small businesses often find the total cost hard to justify. See our Vanta alternatives page if cost is your main driver.

4. Drata

Drata is the other large US platform, with 8,000+ customers and a growing enterprise focus. It acquired SafeBase in 2025 and now runs its Trust Center on that product.

Key features

  • Continuous control monitoring and automated evidence with cross-mapped shared controls.
  • AI Questionnaire Assistance from an approved knowledge base, plus Agentic TPRM Assessment (GA) and Agentic Questionnaire Response (beta) from March 2026.
  • Audit Hub for auditor collaboration and a directory of pre-vetted audit firms.
  • 30+ prebuilt frameworks plus custom frameworks.

Pricing. No prices on Drata's site. AWS Marketplace lists a $25,000 platform fee (sized for a 100 FTE organization) plus $7,500 per framework, so $32,500 per year for platform plus SOC 2. Vendr reports a median of $25,000 across 235 purchases, with a range of $9,415 to $68,250.

Audit. Not included. You contract directly with an audit firm.

Best for. Growing SaaS companies that expect enterprise requirements and want a large vendor.

Tradeoffs. Drata is a step up in cost from Scrut on every number we have. Check built-in integration coverage and configurability against your stack.

5. Scytale

Scytale pairs an AI compliance platform with dedicated human GRC experts. If what you liked about Scrut was the AI teammates idea, Scytale offers the human version alongside its own agent, "Scy."

Key features

  • Dedicated GRC consultants on "Done For You" plans.
  • Scy AI agents for evidence collection, gap detection and one-click policy generation.
  • 150+ integrations plus a custom integration builder.
  • SOX ITGC automation from its 2025 acquisition of AudITech.
  • AI TPRM, AI security questionnaires, Trust Center, user access reviews and a ROPA module.

Pricing. No prices on Scytale's site. AWS Marketplace lists starting prices per 12 months: platform plus one framework $7,500, additional framework $2,100, framework consulting $4,000, pen test $4,500 and third-party audit $4,200.

Audit. Available as an add-on ($4,200+ on AWS) through partner CPA firms. Scytale does not issue the report.

Best for. First-time SOC 2 or ISO 27001 teams that want a person guiding them, and mid-market firms needing SOX ITGC.

Tradeoffs. The entry Build Starter plan has no dedicated expert, so the human help costs more. Teams on unusual infrastructure should test for false fails, and CI/CD integration coverage is worth checking. Read our Scytale alternatives guide for more.

6. Hyperproof

Hyperproof is here for teams that outgrow Scrut, not for those trying to spend less. It is enterprise GRC with Compliance, Risk, Audit, Trust, Third-Party Risk and Governance modules.

Key features

  • 160+ pre-built frameworks with a cross-framework common control set.
  • Hyperproof AI, human-in-the-loop agents launched in September 2025.
  • Hyperproof Gov for CMMC and FedRAMP, and FedRAMP Moderate authorization from March 2026.
  • 200+ integrations, including Jira, Slack, AWS and Okta.
  • Third-party risk strengthened by the Expent.ai acquisition in October 2025.

Pricing. Quote-based ("Request Proposal"). Vendr reports a median of $41,400 per year from 44 purchases, with a range of $22,215 to $70,000.

Audit. Not included. Its Audit module supports work with external firms such as Aprio, Grant Thornton and Bonadio Group.

Best for. Mid-market and enterprise GRC teams with many frameworks, business units or federal requirements.

Tradeoffs. Price, first. Plan for a multi-month implementation and a steep learning curve. If Scrut feels heavy, Hyperproof is heavier. Our Hyperproof alternatives guide covers that buyer in detail.

Where Scrut still wins

AI with an open door. The MCP server lets your team query and file evidence from Claude, Cursor and other AI clients. If your engineers already live in those tools, that is a real workflow advantage.

Security testing in the same product. Scrut added DAST in September 2025, so runtime findings and controls sit together. SecureSlate bundles scanners too; Sprinto, Vanta and Drata do not list this in our sources.

A good negotiated price. If your quote lands near the Vendr median of $7,250, Scrut is one of the cheaper platforms here, with a broad framework library to grow into.

How to choose a Scrut alternative

Start from the reason you are looking.

If your problem is the audit bill on top of the software, choose SecureSlate (from $2,688 per year, with higher plans that can bundle the audit and a pen test) or Scytale with its audit add-on ($7,500 plus $4,200 on AWS before other options).

If your problem is a Scrut quote near $15,000 for a small team, compare SecureSlate (from $2,688 on Starter) and Sprinto's AWS listing ($9,500 for up to 100 employees). Both undercut the AWS Scrut figure.

If your problem is integrations that need manual setup, pilot Vanta (400+) or Sprinto (300+) on your real identity, HR and cloud stack.

If you want a human to run the program with you, Scytale's Done For You plans are built for that.

If you are moving upmarket into multiple entities, FedRAMP or CMMC, look at Hyperproof or Drata and expect a bigger budget and longer rollout.

If you are a HealthTech company pursuing HIPAA and SOC 2 together, test how much evidence the shared control mapping actually reuses. SecureSlate and Drata both offer it, so ask Scrut to show its approach in a demo.

Switching from Scrut

  1. Check your contract. The AWS Marketplace listing is non-cancellable and non-refundable, so time the move for renewal if you bought there.
  2. Export what you own. Policies, the risk register, vendor assessments, evidence files with timestamps, and any audit packages from past cycles.
  3. Map controls once. Use your current SOC 2 or ISO 27001 control set as the source of truth and map it into the new platform, rather than starting from the new vendor's defaults.
  4. Reconnect integrations in priority order: cloud, identity, HR and code repositories first.
  5. Tell your auditor early and confirm they accept evidence from the new tool, or whether the new plan includes an auditor.
  6. Keep a read-only archive of Scrut evidence until your next report is issued.

FAQ

What is the cheapest Scrut Automation alternative?

SecureSlate Starter at $2,688 per year (up to 5 users, one framework) is the lowest published entry point here. Scytale lists platform plus one framework at $7,500 on AWS, and Sprinto lists $9,500. Of these, only SecureSlate offers higher plans that include the audit; see pricing.

How much does Scrut Automation cost?

Scrut does not publish prices. AWS Marketplace lists $15,000 per 12 months for organizations up to 20 employees, non-cancellable. Vendr reports a median of $7,250 per year with a range of $5,160 to $27,050. Treat the AWS figure as a list price and negotiate from there.

Does Scrut include the SOC 2 audit?

No. Scrut uses a bring-your-own-auditor model. An independent CPA firm issues the SOC 2 report and charges its own fee. Scrut helps with audit package preparation and its AI Audit Center. Vendr estimates third-party SOC 2 audits at $8,000 to $25,000+, so add that to any Scrut quote when comparing.

Is Scrut worth it for startups?

Often, yes. Scrut's AWS listing aimed at teams up to 20 employees shows it is built for early companies. It is worth it if your negotiated price is near the Vendr median of $7,250. If your quote is closer to $15,000 and you also need to pay an auditor, compare it with an option that bundles the audit.

Is Sprinto or Scrut better?

They are close. Sprinto lists 300+ integrations versus Scrut's 150+, and its AWS entry listing covers up to 100 employees for $9,500. Scrut has an MCP server and built-in DAST. Neither includes the CPA audit.
