Hyperproof Alternatives in 2026: Lighter, Cheaper and Deeper Options Compared

Photo: Unsplash

The best Hyperproof alternatives in 2026 are SecureSlate, Optro (formerly AuditBoard), Drata, Vanta, Scrut Automation and Strike Graph. SecureSlate wrote this page and puts itself first, so read with that in mind. We scored each tool on sourced pricing, setup time, audit inclusion and framework depth, and we say where Hyperproof is still the better buy.

Hyperproof is one of the most expensive platforms we track in this category. That shapes who looks for alternatives. Most are smaller teams that bought an enterprise GRC system and want something lighter. A smaller group wants to go further into audit, SOX and enterprise risk than Hyperproof goes. This guide covers both.

Background reading: our Hyperproof review for 2026 and the head-to-head Sprinto vs Hyperproof.

The short version

  • Hyperproof costs about $41,400 a year at the median, per Vendr's February 2026 data from 44 purchases, with deals from $22,215 to $70,000. The audit is extra.
  • Setup is measured in months. Plan for a multi-month implementation and a long wait for ROI.
  • To go lighter and cheaper, SecureSlate (from $2,688 per year, published), Scrut (Vendr median $7,250) and Vanta (from $14,000 on AWS) are the main options. Only SecureSlate offers higher plans that include the audit.
  • To go deeper, Optro is the enterprise GRC step up, with a Vendr median of $45,947 and an even longer rollout.
  • Stay on Hyperproof if you need FedRAMP Moderate in your GRC vendor, 160+ frameworks, or multi-entity scoping, and the budget is already approved.

What Hyperproof is and what it costs

Hyperproof was founded in 2018 in Bellevue, Washington, by Craig Unger, who previously co-founded Azuqua (acquired by Okta). It raised a $16.5M Series A in 2021 and a $40M growth round led by Riverwood Capital in August 2023.

It is a compliance operations platform for mid-market and enterprise GRC teams, organized as modules: Compliance, Risk, Audit, Trust, Third-Party Risk and Governance. The last two years added a lot:

  • April 2025: Trust Management launch.
  • September 2025: Hyperproof AI, human-in-the-loop agents.
  • October 2025: acquired Expent.ai to strengthen third-party risk.
  • February 2026: Hierarchical Scopes for multi-entity enterprises.
  • March 2026: FedRAMP Moderate authorization, alongside Hyperproof Gov for CMMC and FedRAMP programs.
  • April 2026: AI-native TPRM, building on the Expent.ai deal.
  • June 2026: named a Chartis Category Leader.

It claims 160+ pre-built frameworks with a common control set, including NIST SP 800-53, CMMC, FedRAMP, HITRUST, DORA and NIS2, plus 200+ integrations.

Pricing

Hyperproof's pricing page shows no numbers, only "Request Proposal." No AWS Marketplace listing turned up when we searched on October 13, 2026. Outside data:

  • Vendr (last updated February 2026): median $41,400 per year, range $22,215 to $70,000, 44 purchases, 21% average savings.
  • Older Vendr figures, cited by SmartSuite (date not stated): median $39,910, and a roughly $10,000 implementation fee that some buyers avoided by signing multi-year deals.

Audit

Not included. Hyperproof's Audit module helps you work with an outside firm, and it lists partners including Aprio, Grant Thornton and Bonadio Group. The CPA or certification body is a separate contract.

The two directions buyers leave Hyperproof

Direction 1: lighter, faster, cheaper

This is the larger group. Typical profile: a 30 to 200 person company that needed SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA, bought Hyperproof for its breadth, and now uses a fraction of it.

What they cite:

  • Cost relative to size. Smaller teams often find the total cost hard to justify. A $41,400 median is about three times Vanta's AWS Essentials price and more than five times Scrut's Vendr median.
  • Time to value. A multi-month implementation is long for a team that has one audit to pass this year.
  • Learning curve. Expect a steep learning curve and time-consuming setup.
  • Navigation at scale. Test navigation with a large control set, and check reporting customization.

Direction 2: deeper enterprise GRC

The smaller group already runs a large program and wants more: internal audit management, SOX, enterprise risk and board reporting in one system. For them the question is not price but whether Hyperproof covers the audit and finance side of GRC as fully as a suite built by former auditors.

Knowing which group you belong to cuts the shortlist in half.

Hyperproof alternatives compared

Platform Best for Pricing signal Audit included?
Hyperproof Multi-framework enterprise GRC, federal Vendr median $41,400/yr No
SecureSlate SMBs and HealthTech wanting price certainty From $2,688/yr (Starter) Available on higher plans, see /pricing
Optro Internal audit, SOX and enterprise risk Vendr median $45,947/yr No
Drata SaaS moving into enterprise deals $32,500/yr AWS (platform plus SOC 2); Vendr median $25,000 No
Vanta Integration breadth and brand $14,000/yr AWS Essentials (1 to 20 employees); Vendr median about $20,000 No
Scrut Automation Low negotiated price, AI agents $15,000/yr AWS (up to 20 employees); Vendr median $7,250 No
Strike Graph Published tiers, CMMC and NIST 800-171 Free tier; Scale from $21,500/yr No

Every figure is linked in Sources.

Year-one cost: Hyperproof against the field

List prices hide the full bill. This table shows the software signal and what else you usually pay for in year one, using only sourced numbers.

Platform Software signal Implementation Audit or certification
Hyperproof $41,400 median A roughly $10,000 fee in older Vendr data, sometimes waived on multi-year deals Separate CPA contract
Optro $45,947 median 10 to 25% of annual subscription per Vendr (about $4,600 to $11,500 at the median, our math) Separate CPA contract
Drata $32,500 AWS list Not stated Separate; firms from Drata's directory
Vanta $14,000 AWS list (Essentials) Not stated Separate; Vendr estimates $8,000 to $25,000+ for SOC 2
Scrut $7,250 Vendr median Not stated Separate CPA contract
Strike Graph Scale from $21,500 Not stated Separate; Strike Graph estimates $4K to $8K through its network
SecureSlate From $2,688/yr (Starter) Dedicated onboarding included Available on higher plans, see /pricing

The gap is clearest at the top. A median Hyperproof deal costs $41,400 before the audit, while SecureSlate starts at $2,688 a year and higher plans can bundle the audit and a pentest. That does not make them the same product. It does mean a small team should be sure it needs Hyperproof's depth.

SecureSlate: published pricing with the audit included

SecureSlate is a compliance automation platform for SMBs, with a focus on HealthTech teams pursuing SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and ISO 42001. For a Hyperproof customer in Direction 1, it removes the two biggest frictions: you know the price before talking to sales, and higher plans can put the audit in the box.

What it does well

  • Continuous evidence collection and control monitoring, with shared control mapping across frameworks.
  • Auto-remediation agents that fix some failing controls in the source system.
  • Built-in security tools that Hyperproof does not list in our sources: DAST surface monitoring, secrets detection, dark web monitoring, code security, open-source license risk and end-of-life software detection.
  • Vendor risk, access reviews, trust center, questionnaire automation, policy library, security awareness training and a device agent.
  • Framework coverage including HITRUST, PCI DSS, NIST CSF, CMMC, FedRAMP, NIS 2, DORA, EU AI Act and custom frameworks.

Price (full pricing): Starter is $2,688 per year (up to 5 users, 1 framework). Higher plans add users, frameworks, automated control testing and vulnerability scanners, and can include one framework audit, a penetration test and a dedicated auditor. Enterprise is custom, with SSO, API and unlimited users.

Proof: Elfie switched from Vanta and cut platform cost by about 70% (case study).

Where it falls short: SecureSlate is younger than Hyperproof. Its integration catalog is smaller than Vanta's or Drata's, its partner ecosystem is smaller, and auditors are less familiar with it. It does not claim Hyperproof's FedRAMP Moderate authorization or 160+ framework library. Large multi-entity programs should test scoping carefully.

Optro (formerly AuditBoard): the deeper enterprise GRC move

Optro is the answer for Direction 2. It was founded in 2014 by former PwC and EY auditors, sold to private equity firm Hg for more than $3B in 2024, and renamed from AuditBoard to Optro on March 9, 2026. It claims over 50% of the Fortune 500 as customers.

What it does well

  • CrossComply for multi-entity, multi-framework IT compliance with shared controls and evidence.
  • A full suite: OpsAudit, RiskOversight, TPRM, RegComply, business continuity, cyber risk and AI governance (expanded with the FairNow acquisition in October 2025).
  • SOX and internal audit workflows, which is its heritage.
  • Control self-assessments, control testing and an "Autonomous Testing" product.
  • Configurable reporting and dashboards.

Price: quote-based. Vendr data (February 2026, still under the AuditBoard name) shows a median of $45,947, a range of $21,220 to $111,208 across 86 purchases, implementation at 10 to 25% of the annual subscription, and multi-year discounts of 10 to 20%.

Where it falls short: it is not cheaper or faster. Plan for a multi-month implementation, longer than Hyperproof's. Check analytics access and customization for your internal processes. It is more than a small company needs. See our Optro alternatives guide.

Drata: enterprise-ready without the full GRC suite

Drata sits between the SMB tools and Hyperproof. It has 8,000+ customers, says enterprise customers grew 190% year over year, and acquired SafeBase in 2025 for its Trust Center.

What it does well

  • Continuous control monitoring with cross-mapped shared controls across 30+ frameworks, including CMMC, DORA and FedRAMP.
  • Trust Center built on SafeBase.
  • Agentic TPRM Assessment (generally available) and Agentic Questionnaire Response (beta), launched March 2026.
  • AI agent governance with audit-ready records.
  • Audit Hub and a directory of pre-vetted audit firms.

Price: AWS Marketplace lists a $25,000 platform fee (sized for 100 FTEs) plus $7,500 per framework, so $32,500 for SOC 2. Vendr reports a $25,000 median across 235 purchases, range $9,415 to $68,250.

Where it falls short: it is cheaper than Hyperproof but not cheap. Check built-in integration coverage and configurability against your stack. More in our Drata alternatives guide.

Vanta: the biggest integration catalog

Vanta has 16,000+ customers and 400+ integrations, the largest catalog here and double Hyperproof's 200+. For teams whose Hyperproof pain was manual evidence work, that breadth matters.

What it does well

  • Automated evidence collection and continuous monitoring.
  • Vanta AI Agent for policies, questionnaire answers, evidence checks and control mapping.
  • 35+ frameworks, including HITRUST, FedRAMP, CMMC and the EU AI Act.
  • Questionnaire automation, Trust Center and third-party risk, plus an Auditor API.

Price: AWS Marketplace lists 12-month prices for 1 to 20 employees: Essentials $14,000, Plus $21,500, Professional $23,000. Add-ons are separate (Trust Center $6,000, TPRM $13,600 for 50 vendors). Vendr reports a median around $20,000.

Where it falls short: larger headcounts and add-ons push the price up, so a mid-market Vanta deal can approach low-end Hyperproof pricing. Some connectors need manual upkeep, reporting customization is limited, and small businesses often find the total cost hard to justify. Audit is separate.

Scrut Automation: low negotiated price, AI agents

Scrut is a risk-first GRC platform for startups and mid-market companies, with AI "Teammates" that act with human approval.

What it does well

  • 70+ frameworks, including ISO 42001, SOC 1 and NIST AI RMF.
  • 150+ integrations with stale and missing evidence flags.
  • An open MCP server for working with evidence from Claude, Cursor and other AI clients.
  • DAST runtime security inside the platform since September 2025.
  • Trust Center and AI questionnaire answering.

Price: quote-based. Vendr reports a median of $7,250 per year (range $5,160 to $27,050). AWS Marketplace lists $15,000 for up to 20 employees, non-cancellable.

Where it falls short: it is a much smaller system than Hyperproof, so multi-entity or federal programs will find less. Some integrations need manual setup, so test sync speed and the depth of the risk module in a trial. We cover it in depth in Scrut Automation alternatives.

Strike Graph: transparent tiers and a federal track

Strike Graph, founded in Seattle in 2020, is the one alternative here besides SecureSlate that publishes prices. It also supports CMMC and NIST 800-171, which makes it a fit for smaller defense suppliers who looked at Hyperproof Gov.

What it does well

  • Atlas AI compliance posture advisor (August 2026) and Verify AI evidence validation.
  • Trust Chain TPRM (May 2026), using AI-validated vendor evidence instead of questionnaires.
  • POA&M action items, System Security Plan and SBOM monitoring for federal work.
  • Cross-framework mapping across SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, HITRUST CSF, CMMC and more.
  • No per-seat fee for general users.

Price: Launch is free (SOC 2 Security, limited templates, Trust Center). Certify is "inquire" now; it showed "Starting at $10,000/yr" until about late September 2026. Scale starts at $21,500 and Enterprise at $35,000. Add-ons include extra frameworks ($2K to $8K) and a pen test ($10K).

Where it falls short: expect a learning curve on evidence collection, and check integrations, reporting, granular permissions and bulk editing against your needs. Its pricing page changed several times in 2026, so get a quote in writing. See Strike Graph alternatives.

Reasons to stay on Hyperproof

Federal authorization. FedRAMP Moderate (March 2026) matters if your GRC tool will hold data for a federal program. None of the SMB-focused alternatives here claim it in our sources.

Framework breadth. 160+ pre-built frameworks is the largest library in this set, ahead of Scrut's 70+ and Vanta's 35+.

Multi-entity structure. Hierarchical Scopes lets a holding company or multi-business-unit group run separate programs on one common control set.

Third-party risk depth. With Expent.ai folded in and AI-native TPRM launched in April 2026, Hyperproof's vendor risk is more developed than it was a year ago.

Decision guide

If this is your situation Look at
Under 50 people, one or two frameworks, want the audit included SecureSlate (higher plans)
Hyperproof feels too slow to roll out and you mainly need SOC 2 SecureSlate, Scrut or Vanta
Your evidence pain is integrations Vanta (400+) or Drata
You sell to enterprises and expect security reviews to grow Drata or Vanta
You run internal audit, SOX and enterprise risk together Optro
You are a defense supplier needing CMMC on a smaller budget Strike Graph or SecureSlate
You need FedRAMP Moderate in the GRC vendor itself Stay on Hyperproof

Whatever you pick, pilot it on your hardest workflow, such as a failing access review or a vendor reassessment, not the demo's happy path.

Leaving Hyperproof without losing your audit trail

  1. Read the contract first. Note renewal dates and any multi-year terms, since buyers often trade term length for discounts.
  2. Export by module. Pull controls and mappings, evidence with dates and owners, risk register entries, vendor assessments and audit requests separately.
  3. Trim the framework list. Many teams on Hyperproof enabled more frameworks than they certify against. Move only the ones you attest to.
  4. Rebuild integrations from the evidence backward. Start with the controls your auditor tests most, then connect the systems that feed them.
  5. Run one audit cycle in parallel if you can, or at least confirm with your auditor that the new platform's exports meet their needs.

FAQ

How much does Hyperproof cost?

Hyperproof does not publish prices. Vendr's February 2026 data shows a median of $41,400 per year from 44 purchases, with a range of $22,215 to $70,000 and average savings of 21%. Older Vendr data mentioned a roughly $10,000 implementation fee. Audit fees are separate.

What is the cheapest Hyperproof alternative?

Strike Graph has a free Launch tier for SOC 2 Security. Among paid plans, SecureSlate Starter is $2,688 per year. Scrut's Vendr median is $7,250. SecureSlate is the only option in this list whose higher plans can include a framework audit and a penetration test; see pricing.

How long does Hyperproof take to implement?

Plan for a multi-month implementation, with a steep learning curve and time-consuming setup, and a longer wait before you see ROI. Optro usually takes longer still. Lighter SMB tools aim for faster self-serve setup.

Does Hyperproof include the audit?

No. Hyperproof is bring your own auditor. Its Audit module supports collaboration with outside firms, and partners include Aprio, Grant Thornton and Bonadio Group. The CPA firm or certification body bills you directly. Vendr estimates third-party SOC 2 audits at $8,000 to $25,000+.

Is Hyperproof worth it for startups?

Usually not for a first SOC 2. Its median contract of $41,400 and multi-month rollout fit mid-market and enterprise GRC teams. A startup can reach the same attestation with SecureSlate, Scrut, Vanta or Strike Graph for far less. Hyperproof makes sense early only if you need FedRAMP or many frameworks from day one.

Is Optro better than Hyperproof?

It depends on the job. Optro (formerly AuditBoard) is stronger for internal audit, SOX and enterprise risk. Hyperproof has FedRAMP Moderate and a 160+ framework library. Optro's Vendr median ($45,947) is a bit higher, and setup is a little longer.
