Comp AI Alternatives in 2026: Managed, Priced and Proven Options

Photo: Unsplash

The best Comp AI alternatives in 2026 are SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata, Sprinto, Oneleet and Thoropass. We are SecureSlate, we wrote this, and we put ourselves first. Every vendor was scored on the same inputs: public or marketplace pricing, whether a CPA audit is part of the price, framework coverage and how long the company has been selling.

Comp AI is unusual: its codebase is open source, so a technical team can run it free. People searching for alternatives usually do not want to host a compliance system, want a number for the budget, or want a vendor with more audit years behind it.

If you want our head-to-head view first, read SecureSlate vs Comp AI. For a deeper look at Comp AI on its own, see our Comp AI review for 2026.

The short version

  • Comp AI is free to self-host under AGPLv3. Its managed service is quote-based, and the vendor says the auditor and pentest are included in one fixed fee.
  • If you want a published price, SecureSlate is the only option on this list with a rate card on its own site, starting at $2,688 per year. Higher plans can include one framework audit and a penetration test; see pricing.
  • Sprinto lists $9,500 per year on AWS Marketplace for one framework, well below Vanta and Drata. The audit is extra.
  • Vanta (founded 2018) and Drata (founded 2020) are the best-known names, but list prices start at $14,000 and $32,500 per year before the audit.
  • Oneleet and Thoropass bundle services: Oneleet adds human pentesting and a vCISO, Thoropass adds its own affiliated CPA firm.

Comp AI in brief: open source core, managed service on top

Comp AI (trycomp.ai) was founded in January 2025 in Miami by Lewis Carhart, Claudio Fuentes and Mariano Fuentes. It raised a $2.6M pre-seed in August 2025 and a $34M Series A on September 17, 2026, led by Roo Capital and Grand Ventures. It reports 1,000+ customers.

About 99% of the code is published under the AGPL-3.0 license on GitHub, where the project has roughly 1,900 stars. A separate commercial enterprise edition sits alongside it. You can run the open-source version yourself on Node, Bun and Postgres.

It covers SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS, SOC 1, NIST, ISO 42001, ISO 9001, CCPA, NEN 7510 and FedRAMP. Headline features: 580+ integrations, generated policies, an open-source device agent, natural-language control tests with an AI browser agent, a self-filtering trust center, and AI-agent pentesting with daily cloud scans.

How pricing works. There is no public rate card. The pricing page says pricing is "tailored to your scope" and asks you to book a 20-minute call. Comp AI's cost page describes one fixed fee that covers the platform, the auditor and a pentest. Earlier self-serve prices that circulated online ($199 per month, $997 per month and $3,000 to $10,000) were reported as retired in a September 2026 third-party update, so do not budget from them. Third parties report a 12-month minimum term with auto-renewal and 30 days' notice.

The audit. The vendor says the audit is included and that you can use one of its vetted auditors or your own. SOC2Auditors.org points out that Comp AI does not issue reports itself and recommends confirming the CPA firm's fee in your quote. Treat the audit as included only once it appears as a line item with a named firm.

Why buyers shop around

They do not want to run it. Self-hosting is free in licence terms, but someone has to deploy, patch, back up and secure it through the audit window. For a ten-person startup, that cost is real. The managed service solves this, but then you are comparing quotes.

They need a published number. Comp AI's pricing is quote-based and has changed over time.

They want a longer history. Comp AI is under two years old. Some enterprise buyers prefer vendors with many renewal cycles behind them, like Vanta and Drata.

Onboarding help. Expect a learning curve and limited guidance during setup, and check how far you can customize niche internal policies. Teams without a compliance lead may want more hand-holding.

The AGPL licence. The open-source core is AGPLv3, a copyleft licence. Copyleft licences come with obligations, so if you plan to self-host, check your company's open-source policy before you deploy.

What a first SOC 2 costs on each platform

Sticker prices do not measure the same thing. Here is how a first SOC 2 adds up for about 15 people, using published or marketplace figures. Where the audit is separate, Vendr's estimate for a third-party SOC 2 audit is $8,000 to $25,000 or more.

SecureSlate: published pricing with an audit tier

What it is. A managed compliance automation platform for SMBs, with a HealthTech focus and prices on the website.

Standout features

  • Continuous evidence collection and control monitoring, plus auto-remediation agents that fix some failing controls in the source system.
  • SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR, PCI DSS, NIST CSF, CMMC, FedRAMP, NIS 2, DORA, EU AI Act, Cyber Essentials, ISO 9001 and custom frameworks, with shared control mapping.
  • Built-in security tools: DAST surface monitoring, secrets detection, dark web monitoring, code security, open-source license risk and end-of-life software detection.
  • Access reviews, vendor risk, trust center, security questionnaire automation, policy library, security awareness training and a device agent.

Price. Starter is $2,688 per year for up to 5 users and one framework. Higher plans add users, frameworks, automated control testing, vulnerability scanners and bring your own auditor, and can include one framework audit, a penetration test, a dedicated auditor assignment and audit prep. Enterprise is custom (SSO, API, unlimited users, questionnaire automation). Full details are on our pricing page.

Pick it over Comp AI if you want Comp AI's bundled audit-and-pentest idea at a price you can read before a call, without hosting anything. It also suits HealthTech teams running HIPAA and SOC 2 on one control set. Elfie moved from Vanta to SecureSlate and reported about 70% lower platform cost.

Watch out for. We are a younger brand with a smaller integration catalog and partner ecosystem than Vanta or Drata, and fewer auditors know the platform. There is no self-hosted edition.

Vanta: the largest catalog and customer base

What it is. Selling since 2018, Vanta claims 16,000+ customers and calls itself an "Agentic Trust Platform."

Standout features

  • 400+ integrations, an API and an Auditor API.
  • 35+ frameworks, including HITRUST, ISO 42001, CMMC, NIS2, DORA and the EU AI Act.
  • Vanta AI Agent for policy drafting, questionnaire answers, evidence checks and control mapping.

Price. Not published on Vanta's site. On AWS Marketplace, for 1 to 20 employees: Essentials $14,000, Plus $21,500 and Professional $23,000 per year. Add-ons such as Trust Center ($6,000) or questionnaire automation ($10,000) cost extra. Vendr's median contract is about $20,000.

Pick it over Comp AI if enterprise prospects already know the Vanta name.

Watch out for. The audit is a separate contract. Some connectors need manual upkeep, niche stacks may lack integrations, and very small businesses often find the total cost hard to justify. Our Vanta alternatives page goes further.

Drata: built for scaling SaaS

What it is. Drata, founded in 2020, sells to venture-backed SaaS from startup to enterprise and reports 8,000+ customers. It bought SafeBase in 2025 for its Trust Center.

Standout features

  • Continuous monitoring with cross-mapped shared controls across 30+ frameworks.
  • SafeBase-based Trust Center and AI questionnaire assistance.
  • Agentic third-party risk assessments and questionnaire responses (launched March 2026).
  • Audit Hub and a directory of audit firms.

Price. Contact sales on Drata's site. AWS Marketplace lists $25,000 for the platform (sized for 100 employees) plus $7,500 per framework, so $32,500 per year with SOC 2. Vendr reports a median of $25,000 and about $12,000 to $28,000 for companies under 50 people.

Pick it over Comp AI if you plan several frameworks and enterprise deals.

Watch out for. No audit in the price, and it is one of the more expensive options here. Check built-in integration coverage and configurability against your stack. See Drata alternatives.

Sprinto: a lower-cost managed platform

What it is. Sprinto, founded in 2020 and backed by a $20M Series B led by Accel in 2024, calls itself an "Autonomous Trust Platform." It reports 3,000 to 4,000+ customers and is often positioned as cheaper than Vanta and Drata.

Standout features

  • Autonomous agents that refresh evidence, prepare audit artifacts and close control gaps.
  • Unified Commitments, which maps frameworks, contracts and policies into one control set.
  • Autonomous third-party risk management with vendor discovery and risk tiering.
  • AI governance: AI tool discovery mapped to ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF and the EU AI Act.
  • 300+ integrations, a Trust Center and AI security questionnaires (20 per year on Foundation).

Price. Not on Sprinto's site. AWS Marketplace (US) lists the Starter Platform for up to 100 employees at $7,500 plus $2,000 for the first framework, $9,500 per year. Vendr's median is $15,000.

Pick it over Comp AI if you want a hosted platform near the bottom of this market on price.

Watch out for. No CPA audit is included; bring your own auditor is only on Growth and above. Expect a learning curve from the number of features, and test integration sync timing in a trial. More in our Sprinto alternatives guide.

Oneleet: security work bundled with compliance

What it is. Oneleet was started in 2022 by penetration testers in Amsterdam and raised a $33M Series A in October 2025. It packages compliance automation with security services.

Standout features

  • Human pentests by certified testers, alongside AI.
  • Code, dependency and DAST scanning with autofix pull requests.
  • CSPM and attack surface monitoring for AWS, GCP and Azure.
  • A vCISO in Slack, mock audits and managed audit support.

Price. Quote after a demo. Vendr shows a SOC 2 All-In-One Package at about $24,000 per year and a one-off compliance pentest at $6,000.

Pick it over Comp AI if you like Comp AI's built-in pentesting but want human testers and a named security advisor rather than AI agents.

Watch out for. An independent CPA firm sets its own audit fee on top. Check integration coverage for smaller tools and how much you can customize reports. Ask for an itemized quote so you can compare it with software-only tools.

Thoropass: software and auditor in one contract

What it is. Thoropass, renamed from Laika in 2023, pairs a readiness platform with an affiliated AICPA-registered CPA firm, Thoropass Assurance. It focuses on SaaS, healthcare and fintech.

Standout features

  • One vendor from kickoff to final report through its Audit Lifecycle Platform.
  • First Pass AI checks evidence quality before the auditor sees it.
  • Smart Sort AI imports exports from other GRC tools, which helps if you are leaving Comp AI with data in hand.
  • CREST-accredited pentesting and HITRUST e1, i1 and r2 support.

Price. AWS Marketplace lists the platform with one framework "starting at" $8,700 per year and the SOC 2 audit subscription "starting at" $5,800 per year, billed separately, with renewal increases of up to 7%. Vendr's median is $25,964.

Pick it over Comp AI if you want the audit firm and the software under one roof with a longer operating history (since 2019), especially for HITRUST.

Watch out for. Using the affiliated auditor limits auditor choice if a customer requires no common ownership. Test dashboard usability as evidence grows. Read our Thoropass alternatives for more.

Where Comp AI still wins

You can read the code. No other platform here lets you audit the source of your compliance tool or run it inside your own network. For security-minded engineering teams, that is a real advantage.

Free to start. The self-hosted edition costs nothing in licence fees, which is useful for a pre-revenue startup getting its controls in order before paying for an audit.

Large integration count for its age. Comp AI claims 580+ integrations, more than the 400+ Vanta and 300+ Sprinto list.

Momentum. The September 2026 Series A funds continuous security monitoring and testing. The pricing page also mentions a money-back guarantee; get the terms in writing.

Which alternative fits your situation

Your situation Look first at
No engineer has time to host a compliance tool SecureSlate, Sprinto, Vanta
Finance needs a price before any sales call SecureSlate (prices on site), then AWS listings for Sprinto, Vanta, Thoropass
You want audit and pentest in one number SecureSlate higher plans (audit and pentest), Thoropass (audit), Oneleet (pentest and audit support)
Enterprise prospects ask "which vendor do you use?" Vanta, Drata
You expect to add ISO 27001 and HIPAA within a year SecureSlate, Drata, Sprinto
HealthTech, possibly HITRUST later SecureSlate, Thoropass
Application security is what customers probe Oneleet
You must choose your own auditor SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata, Sprinto Growth and above

If you are adding ISO 27001 or ISO 42001 for an AI product, confirm the certification body each vendor works with, since those are certifications, not CPA attestations.

Moving off Comp AI

If you self-host, you already hold the data. Take a backup of the Postgres database and export policies, control mappings, risk entries, vendor records and evidence files before you shut anything down. Keep the backup for as long as your audit retention policy requires.

If you use the managed service, check the 12-month term and 30-day notice period, then ask for a full export of policies, evidence and control status in open formats.

Then, on the new platform:

  1. Connect cloud, identity, HR, code and ticketing integrations first, and let them run for two to four weeks.
  2. Import policies as drafts and have each owner re-approve them.
  3. Re-install the new device agent on every laptop and remove the old one.
  4. Confirm your auditor. If your current audit firm is independent, it can often continue on a new platform.
  5. Update your trust center link in sales materials and security questionnaires.

FAQ

Is Comp AI really free?

The open-source edition is free under the AGPLv3 licence, but you host and maintain it and still pay a CPA firm for any SOC 2 audit. The managed service is quote-based, and Comp AI says that fee covers the platform, an auditor and a pentest. Earlier self-serve prices from $199 per month have been reported as retired.

What is the cheapest Comp AI alternative?

SecureSlate Starter at $2,688 per year (up to 5 users, one framework) is the lowest published price here. Among marketplace listings, Sprinto is $9,500 per year for one framework. If you need the audit and pentest included, SecureSlate's higher plans can bundle both; see pricing.

Does Comp AI include the SOC 2 audit?

The vendor says its managed fee includes the external auditor and a pentest, with a vetted firm or your own. Comp AI does not issue reports itself, and SOC2Auditors.org suggests confirming the CPA firm's fee in your quote. Ask for the firm's name and its fee as a separate line.

Is Comp AI worth it for startups?

It can be, especially for engineering-led teams that want open source or a bundled first audit. Plan for limited onboarding guidance and a learning curve. Teams without a compliance owner may prefer a more guided managed tool.

How does Comp AI compare with Vanta?

Comp AI is younger (2025 versus 2018), open source and quote-based, with the auditor included per the vendor. Vanta has 16,000+ customers and lists Essentials at $14,000 per year for 1 to 20 employees on AWS, with the audit sold separately.

Can I self-host a Comp AI alternative?

Not that we found. SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata, Sprinto, Oneleet and Thoropass are sold as hosted services, and none of their public materials we reviewed offer a self-hosted edition. If self-hosting is a hard requirement, Comp AI's open-source edition is the main option in this group, with Postgres, Node and Bun as the stack.
