Thoropass Alternatives in 2026: 6 Options Compared on Cost, Audit and Auditor Choice

The best Thoropass alternatives in 2026 are SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata, Oneleet, Secureframe and Comp AI. SecureSlate wrote this guide and ranks itself first, so weigh that. We compared each option on published or marketplace pricing, whether the audit is included, auditor choice and security tooling, using only sourced figures listed at the end.

Thoropass (formerly Laika) sells software and the audit together, with the audit performed by its affiliated CPA firm. That model is why people choose it, and why some search for something else.

For a direct two-way breakdown, see SecureSlate vs Thoropass or our Thoropass review for 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Thoropass bundles readiness software with an audit by Thoropass Assurance, an affiliated, AICPA-registered CPA firm. On AWS Marketplace the platform starts at $8,700/yr and the SOC 2 audit subscription at $5,800/yr, billed separately. Vendr reports a median contract of about $26,000/yr.
  • Buyers usually look elsewhere for one of three reasons: lower total cost, a free choice of auditor, or broader built-in security tooling.
  • SecureSlate starts at $2,688/yr, and higher plans can include one framework audit and a penetration test, which makes it the closest like-for-like bundle with published pricing.
  • Vanta, Drata and Secureframe do not include the audit. Budget for a separate auditor contract on top of the software.
  • Oneleet and Comp AI also sell bundled packages, but their prices are quote-based, so get an itemized quote.
  • Thoropass still makes sense if you want one accountable vendor for HITRUST, or if you value its in-house audit team and certification body.

What Thoropass is and what it costs

Thoropass was founded in 2019 as Laika and renamed on March 29, 2023. It is based in New York and has raised $98M, including a $50M Series C in November 2022 led by Fin Capital. If you are researching the old name, Laika alternatives are the same decision, and this page covers it.

It describes itself as an "end-to-end cybersecurity auditor." Its products:

  • Compliance Suite: multi-framework control mapping and continuous monitoring.
  • Audit Lifecycle Platform: evidence, controls and auditor communication from kickoff to final report.
  • Smart Sort AI (January 2026): ingests exports from other GRC tools without an integration, so you can bring evidence from another platform.
  • First Pass AI: checks evidence quality before an auditor reviews it.
  • Pentesting: CREST-accredited penetration testing and vulnerability scanning.

Frameworks include SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITRUST e1, i1 and r2, CMMC Level 1, NIST CSF 2.0, Cyber Essentials and GDPR. Press materials claim 30+ frameworks.

Who performs the audit

The audit entity is "Laika Compliance, LLC dba Thoropass Assurance," an AICPA-registered CPA firm that is legally separate from Thoropass, Inc. ISO 27001 certification is handled by Thoropass Certification LLC, which was accredited for ISO 27001:2022 audits in September 2026. Thoropass also says it received the highest AICPA peer review rating in December 2025.

Pricing

Thoropass does not publish list prices. Its pricing page offers a "tailored quote," with software and audit typically priced together. The public signals are:

Source What it shows
AWS Marketplace (12-month, checked Oct 13, 2026) Compliance Platform incl. first framework from $8,700/yr; SOC 2 Audit Subscription from $5,800/yr; billed separately; renewals may rise up to 7%
Vendr (updated February 2026) Median $25,964/yr; range $1,145 to $52,387; sample size not stated

So a first SOC 2 with Thoropass starts at about $14,500/yr on AWS list prices, and many buyers pay more once frameworks, headcount or pentesting are added.

Why teams look for Thoropass alternatives

Most switching is about fit, not dissatisfaction.

1. Total cost

The Vendr median of about $26,000/yr sits well above what a small team can pay for a bundled audit elsewhere. Platform and audit are billed as separate line items on AWS, and the listing notes renewals may rise up to 7%. For a seed-stage company buying its first SOC 2 Type 1, that total is often the trigger to compare.

2. Auditor choice and independence

Because the auditor is an affiliate, you cannot pick any CPA firm and keep the bundle. Some customer procurement policies or internal rules require an auditor with no shared ownership with the software vendor. If that applies to you, an affiliate auditor will not meet the requirement, regardless of audit quality. This is a structural point, not a judgment about Thoropass Assurance's work.

3. Broader security tooling

Thoropass offers pentesting and scanning, but its core is audit delivery. Teams that want secrets detection, code scanning, attack surface monitoring or dark web monitoring inside the same platform sometimes prefer a tool built around security operations.

4. Service consistency and UI at scale

Ask how CSM and auditor continuity and report timelines are handled across audit cycles. Check how dashboards hold up as evidence volume grows, and compare customization and the integration catalog against the broadest competitors.

1. SecureSlate

SecureSlate is a compliance automation platform for SMBs, with a focus on HealthTech. It is the closest alternative to the Thoropass model because higher plans can bundle the audit and a pentest, with published pricing.

Key features

  • Audit and pentest on higher plans: one framework audit and a penetration test can be included, plus a dedicated auditor assignment and audit prep.
  • Bring your own auditor: if your policy requires an auditor you pick, higher plans support that, with automated control testing and vulnerability scanners.
  • Built-in security tools: DAST surface monitoring, secrets detection, dark web monitoring, code security, open-source license risk and outdated or end-of-life software detection.
  • Auto-remediation agents: fix some failing controls directly in the source system instead of only opening a ticket.
  • Wide framework list: SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, HITRUST, GDPR, PCI DSS, NIST CSF, CMMC, FedRAMP, NIS 2, DORA, EU AI Act and more, with shared control mapping.
  • Program basics included: access reviews, vendor risk, trust center, questionnaire automation, policy library, security awareness training and a device agent.

Pricing

Plan Price Users Frameworks Audit
Starter $2,688/yr Up to 5 1 Not included
Higher plans See pricing More users More frameworks Bring your own auditor, or 1 framework audit and pentest included
Enterprise Custom Unlimited Custom Custom; adds SSO, API

Thoropass's AWS starting point is $14,500 for platform plus SOC 2 audit. SecureSlate starts at $2,688 a year, and higher plans can bundle the audit and a pentest. Elfie, which moved from Vanta, reported about 70% lower platform cost.

Best for

Startups and SMBs, especially in HealthTech, that want a bundled first audit at a predictable price, or that need to choose their own auditor. See our HIPAA and SOC 2 framework pages.

Tradeoffs

SecureSlate is a younger brand than Thoropass. Our integration catalog is smaller than Vanta's or Drata's, our partner ecosystem is smaller, and fewer auditors have worked in our platform before. If an enterprise customer insists on a specific big-name tool, that matters.

2. Vanta

Vanta is the largest brand in the category, founded in 2018 and claiming 16,000+ customers. It brands itself an "Agentic Trust Platform" and supports 35+ frameworks.

Key features

  • Automated evidence collection and continuous monitoring across 400+ integrations, plus an API and an Auditor API.
  • Vanta AI Agent for policy drafting, questionnaire answers, evidence checks and control mapping.
  • Trust Center from Essentials, with an advanced version on Professional.
  • Questionnaire automation: 25 per year on Plus, 144 on Professional.
  • Third-party risk management and custom tests on higher tiers.

Pricing

Vanta publishes no prices on its site. AWS Marketplace lists 12-month prices for 1–20 employees: Essentials $14,000, Plus $21,500, Professional $23,000. Add-ons include Trust Center ($6,000), Questionnaire Automation ($10,000) and TPRM ($13,600). Vendr puts the median contract near $20,000. The audit is extra: Vendr estimates a third-party SOC 2 audit at $8,000 to $25,000+.

Best for

Venture-backed SaaS companies whose buyers recognize the Vanta name, and teams on stacks that its catalog covers well.

Tradeoffs

Moving to Vanta means two contracts instead of one, and the software alone can cost about as much as Thoropass's bundle. Some connectors need manual upkeep, and small teams often find the total cost hard to justify. More in our Vanta alternatives guide.

3. Drata

Drata, founded in 2020, has 8,000+ customers and passed $100M ARR. It is moving upmarket, with enterprise customers up 190% year over year per the company.

Key features

  • Continuous control monitoring with cross-mapped shared controls across 30+ frameworks.
  • Trust Center built on SafeBase, acquired in February 2025.
  • AI Questionnaire Assistance and Agentic TPRM Assessment (GA since March 2026).
  • AI agent governance for discovering and governing AI agents.
  • Audit Hub for auditor collaboration and a pre-vetted auditor directory.

Pricing

AWS Marketplace lists a $25,000 platform fee (sized for a 100 FTE org) plus $7,500 per framework, so platform plus SOC 2 is $32,500/yr. Vendr reports a $25,000 median across 235 purchases, with companies under 50 employees paying about $12,000 to $28,000. Audits are contracted directly with the audit firm.

Best for

Growth-stage SaaS companies that expect several frameworks and enterprise buyers, and that want complete freedom to bring any licensed CPA firm.

Tradeoffs

Drata is the most expensive path on list prices once you add an audit. Check built-in integration coverage and walk through the auditor experience in a demo. See Drata alternatives for more.

4. Oneleet

Oneleet is a Y Combinator S22 company from Amsterdam, founded by penetration testers. It raised a $33M Series A in October 2025. Like Thoropass, it sells a bundle, but the emphasis is security work rather than audit delivery.

Key features

  • Human penetration testing by certified testers, combined with AI.
  • Code, dependency and DAST scanning with autofix pull requests.
  • Attack surface monitoring and CSPM for AWS, GCP and Azure.
  • Dedicated vCISO in Slack.
  • Mock audit, auditor negotiation and managed audit support.

Pricing

Quote-based. Vendr observed a "SOC 2 All-In-One Package" list price of $24,000/yr, and a one-off compliance pentest at $6,000. The audit itself is signed by an independent CPA firm that sets its own fee, which Oneleet says is quoted before signing.

Best for

Security-first startups that want pentesting, code scanning and a vCISO under one contract, with an auditor that is independent of the software vendor.

Tradeoffs

The bundle can be more than a team needing only evidence automation requires. Its integration catalog is smaller, so check your stack and reporting needs. Our Oneleet alternatives page covers it in depth.

5. Secureframe

Secureframe, founded in 2020, claims 6,000+ customers and leans on 30+ in-house compliance experts and former auditors.

Key features

  • Automated tests, evidence collection and continuous monitoring.
  • Comply AI for remediation and risk, plus AI questionnaire automation.
  • Trust Center and User Access Reviews (April 2026).
  • Secureframe Defense for CMMC: SPRS score tracker, SSP, POA&M and a managed CUI enclave.
  • Audit Partner Network to help you pick a firm.

Pricing

Secureframe is the only vendor here besides SecureSlate that publishes a price: Fundamentals starts at $7,500/yr. AWS Marketplace lists $7,500 platform plus $7,500 first framework, so $15,000/yr. Vendr reports a $20,000 median. The audit is separate; Vendr estimates $10,000 to $30,000+ per framework.

Best for

SMB and mid-market teams that want expert guidance, and US defense contractors working on CMMC.

Tradeoffs

You lose the single-contract simplicity of Thoropass. Confirm coverage for niche tools, and plan for a learning curve at setup.

6. Comp AI

Comp AI was founded in January 2025, raised a $34M Series A in September 2026 and claims 1,000+ customers. Its core is open source under AGPL-3.0, and you can self-host it.

Key features

  • Evidence collection via 580+ integrations.
  • Policies generated from details about your stack.
  • Open-source device agent checking encryption, firewall, screen lock and antivirus.
  • Natural-language control tests, including an AI browser agent that captures screenshots.
  • AI agent penetration testing and daily cloud scanning.

Pricing

No public rate card. Comp AI describes a single fixed fee covering platform, auditor and pentest, given on a demo call. Earlier self-serve prices have been retired. The self-hosted edition is free if you run it.

Best for

Engineering-led startups that want inspectable code and a bundled first SOC 2.

Tradeoffs

Comp AI does not issue reports itself; a third party advises confirming the CPA firm's fee in your quote. Budget time for onboarding. It is a very young company, and self-hosting moves uptime to your team. Our Comp AI review has more.

Where Thoropass still wins

There are good reasons to stay with Thoropass or pick it first.

HITRUST with one vendor. Thoropass supports HITRUST e1, i1 and r2 and became a HITRUST MyCSF reseller in January 2025. For healthcare companies facing HITRUST requests, having the software, assessor relationship and audit in one place reduces coordination.

An audit team you can reach directly. Evidence questions get answered inside one workflow instead of across two companies.

Certification body in-house. Thoropass Certification LLC was accredited for ISO 27001:2022 in September 2026, so an ISO certificate can come from the same group.

Works next to your current tool. Smart Sort AI accepts exports from other GRC platforms, so you can use Thoropass just for the audit.

How to choose a Thoropass alternative

Start from why you are leaving, then match:

  • If cost is the problem and you still want the audit bundled, compare SecureSlate (from $2,688 a year, with the audit and a pentest available on higher plans) against an itemized Comp AI quote.
  • If your policy requires an auditor with no shared ownership with the software vendor, choose a platform where you pick the firm: SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata or Secureframe. Oneleet also works, since an independent CPA firm signs its reports.
  • If brand recognition with enterprise buyers matters most, Vanta or Drata. Budget $8,000 to $25,000+ for the audit on top.
  • If you want deep security work, especially human pentesting, Oneleet.
  • If you need CMMC, Secureframe Defense is the most purpose-built option here.
  • If you need HITRUST and want one vendor accountable, Thoropass is still a strong pick.

Ask every finalist for year-one and year-two totals including audit, pentest and renewal uplift. For a framework primer, see ISO 27001 and ISO 42001.

Switching from Thoropass

  1. Time it to your audit window. Avoid switching mid-observation period for a SOC 2 Type 2.
  2. Export everything. Pull policies, control mappings, evidence and prior reports from the Audit Lifecycle Platform.
  3. Decide on the auditor first. If you are moving to a bring-your-own-auditor platform, sign the audit firm before the software so it can confirm scope.
  4. Reconnect integrations. Cloud, identity, HR, MDM and ticketing are the usual set. Check that each produces real evidence, not just a green connection.
  5. Run one framework end to end before adding a second.

FAQ

What is the cheapest Thoropass alternative?

Among published prices, SecureSlate Starter is lowest at $2,688/yr, but it does not include an audit. For a like-for-like bundle, SecureSlate's higher plans can include one framework audit and a penetration test; see pricing. Thoropass on AWS Marketplace starts at $8,700 for the platform plus $5,800 for the SOC 2 audit. Comp AI's self-hosted edition is free, but you run it and buy the audit.

Does Thoropass include the audit?

Yes. The audit is performed by Laika Compliance, LLC dba Thoropass Assurance, an AICPA-registered CPA firm legally separate from Thoropass, Inc. On AWS Marketplace the SOC 2 audit subscription starts at $5,800/yr and is billed separately from the $8,700 platform. ISO 27001 certification runs through Thoropass Certification LLC, accredited in September 2026.

Is Thoropass worth it for startups?

It can be for a startup that wants one vendor and an auditor it can talk to directly. The cost is the question: Vendr reports a median of about $26,000/yr, with AWS list prices starting near $14,500 for platform plus SOC 2 audit. Early-stage teams often compare bundled options with published prices, such as SecureSlate, which starts at $2,688 a year and can bundle the audit on higher plans.

Can I use my own auditor with Thoropass?

Thoropass's bundle uses its affiliated audit firm, so choosing an outside CPA firm means giving up the bundle. If your customers or policies require an auditor with no shared ownership with the software vendor, pick a platform where you hire the firm yourself, such as SecureSlate, Vanta, Drata or Secureframe.

Is Thoropass better than Vanta?

They solve different problems. Thoropass includes the audit; Vanta does not, and Vendr estimates a separate SOC 2 audit at $8,000 to $25,000+. Vanta has a larger integration catalog (400+). Choose Thoropass for one contract, Vanta for brand and integrations.
