SecureSlate vs Rapid7 | 2026 Vulnerability Management Comparison

Weighing other options? See our guide to vulnerability scanning tools and the best DAST solutions for 2026.

The short version

SecureSlate and Rapid7 both help you find and fix vulnerabilities, but they are built for different buyers. Rapid7 is a broad security operations vendor. Its portfolio spans vulnerability management (InsightVM), application security testing (InsightAppSec), detection and response (InsightIDR), cloud security, and managed services, aimed at security teams that run their own operations. SecureSlate is a compliance and security platform that includes vulnerability scanning and ties each finding to the controls your SOC 2 or ISO 27001 auditor will review.

  • Choose SecureSlate if you need a compliance program and practical scanning in one platform, at a published price, without staffing a security operations team.
  • Choose Rapid7 if you have a security team managing a large estate of endpoints and servers and need agent-based vulnerability management, SIEM, or managed detection and response.
  • The honest split: SecureSlate runs the compliance program Rapid7 does not, with scanning built in. Rapid7 goes deeper on security operations. Details below, including where Rapid7 wins.

How we compare these platforms

This comparison is published by SecureSlate, so read it with that in mind. Capability is rated in three states:

Rating What it means
🟒 Built in and usable without add-ons
🟠 Present but limited or partial, or dependent on tier or a separate product
πŸ”΄ Not available natively
  • Rapid7 gets credit where it earns it. Categories where Rapid7 is stronger are named in the tables and collected in one section.
  • Pricing is directional. Rapid7 is quote-based and sold as separate products. Verify against a written proposal.
  • Claims map to documentation. SecureSlate capabilities link to product or documentation pages you can check.

Read vulnerability management and compliance first. That is where the decision usually sits.

Vulnerability management

Rapid7's InsightVM is a mature vulnerability management product. It uses a lightweight agent and network scanning to assess endpoints, servers, and network devices, prioritizes findings by risk, and tracks remediation across large estates. For organizations with thousands of assets, that depth matters.

SecureSlate takes a different scope. It does not scan hosts for known CVEs. Instead it covers the exposure most SaaS companies are audited on: DAST and attack surface monitoring of live domains and discovered subdomains, cloud misconfiguration scanning across AWS, Azure, and GCP, code security and SAST, secrets detection, and end-of-life software tracking. Device posture comes from the SecureSlate device agent, which checks encryption, screen lock, and similar compliance settings.

Detection and response

This category is entirely Rapid7's. InsightIDR provides SIEM and extended detection and response, and Rapid7 offers managed detection and response services run by its own analysts. SecureSlate does not offer a SIEM or MDR service.

What SecureSlate does offer is monitoring tied to compliance: dark web monitoring for exposed credentials, continuous control tests that flag drift, and the security issue SLA triage agent that keeps findings moving against their deadlines. If your auditor needs evidence of logging and monitoring, SecureSlate tracks the control and its evidence. It does not replace a SIEM.

Compliance program

Rapid7 can assess configurations against policy benchmarks and report on vulnerability posture, which supports parts of an audit. It is not built to run a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 program end to end.

SecureSlate is. It provides multi-framework control mapping, automated evidence collection, policies, access reviews, vendor risk, risk management, a trust center, and audit management. Scan findings land next to the controls they satisfy, so the record of what you found and fixed is already in place when fieldwork starts.

Pricing

Rapid7 sells its products separately and prices them by quote, typically by the number of assets or applications covered. Buying vulnerability management, application testing, and detection together means three line items.

SecureSlate publishes pricing. Vulnerability scanners are included from the Pro plan at $4,788 per year, alongside a compliance framework, automated control testing, and access reviews. Ultra at $8,500 per year adds a penetration test and a framework audit. See pricing or the savings calculator.

Where Rapid7 wins

Breadth of security operations. Vulnerability management, application testing, SIEM, cloud security, and managed services from one vendor. For a security team building a full operations function, that breadth is the point.

Infrastructure vulnerability management. InsightVM handles large estates of endpoints and servers with agent and network scanning. SecureSlate does not scan hosts for CVEs.

Detection and response. If you need a SIEM or a managed SOC, Rapid7 offers both. SecureSlate offers neither.

Enterprise track record. Rapid7 has a long history with large security teams, which carries weight in enterprise procurement.

Who each platform is for

Choose SecureSlate if

  • You need SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA and want scanning to feed that program.
  • Your exposure is mainly a SaaS application, its domains, code, and cloud account.
  • You do not have a security operations team to run a SIEM or tune a vulnerability program.
  • You want one contract and a price you can read.

Choose Rapid7 if

  • You manage many endpoints and servers that need CVE scanning and patch tracking.
  • You need SIEM, detection and response, or a managed SOC.
  • Your compliance program already lives in another platform.

FAQ

Is SecureSlate a Rapid7 alternative?

For SaaS teams that need compliance plus application, code, and cloud scanning, yes. For organizations that need agent-based vulnerability management across many hosts, or a SIEM and managed detection, Rapid7 is the stronger choice.

Is SecureSlate an InsightVM alternative?

Not directly. InsightVM scans endpoints and servers for known vulnerabilities. SecureSlate scans live web applications, cloud accounts, and code. If host vulnerability scanning is in your audit scope, you need a tool like InsightVM alongside SecureSlate.

Is SecureSlate an InsightAppSec alternative?

Partly. Both scan running web applications from the outside. SecureSlate adds subdomain discovery, CWE-classified findings with recommended fixes, and ties them to compliance controls. InsightAppSec offers deeper configuration options for complex application testing.

Can I use Rapid7 and SecureSlate together?

Yes. Teams often keep Rapid7 for security operations and use SecureSlate for the compliance program, uploading Rapid7 reports to the data room as evidence.

Which is cheaper?

SecureSlate publishes pricing from $4,788 per year for plans that include scanning. Rapid7 is quote-based per product. If you only need compliance and application scanning, SecureSlate usually costs less. Compare written quotes.

Is this comparison biased?

It is published by SecureSlate, so treat it as a vendor's argument. SecureSlate claims link to documentation, and the areas where Rapid7 is stronger are named in Where Rapid7 wins.
