The short version
SecureSlate and Qualys both find vulnerabilities and both talk about compliance, but they mean different things by it. Qualys is one of the longest-established vulnerability management vendors. Its cloud platform covers vulnerability management (VMDR), web application scanning, cloud security, asset inventory, and configuration policy compliance, built for security teams with large estates. SecureSlate is a compliance platform first. It runs your SOC 2 or ISO 27001 program and includes application, code, and cloud scanning that feeds directly into it.
- Choose SecureSlate if you need an audit-ready compliance program with practical scanning built in, at a published price, and you do not have a team to run an enterprise vulnerability program.
- Choose Qualys if you manage thousands of endpoints and servers, need agent-based CVE scanning and patch prioritization, and have the staff to operate a large platform.
- The honest split: SecureSlate runs the whole compliance program with scanning built in. Qualys is the deeper vulnerability management platform for large estates. Details below, including where Qualys wins.
How we compare these platforms
This comparison is published by SecureSlate, so read it with that in mind. Capability is rated in three states:
| Rating | What it means |
|---|---|
| π’ | Built in and usable without add-ons |
| π | Present but limited or partial, or dependent on tier or a separate module |
| π΄ | Not available natively |
- Qualys gets credit where it earns it. Categories where Qualys is stronger are named in the tables and collected in one section.
- Pricing is directional. Qualys is quote-based and sold by module. Verify against a written proposal.
- Claims map to documentation. SecureSlate capabilities link to product or documentation pages you can check.

Start with vulnerability management and compliance. Qualys and SecureSlate use the word "compliance" for different jobs.
Vulnerability management
Qualys VMDR is the reference point many vulnerability management products are measured against. It discovers assets, scans them with agents and network scanners against a large vulnerability knowledge base, prioritizes by threat context, and can push patches through a related module. For large enterprises with heterogeneous estates, it is a proven choice.
SecureSlate does not scan servers or endpoints for CVEs. Its scanning covers the surface a SaaS company is usually audited on: DAST and attack surface monitoring of live domains and discovered subdomains, cloud misconfiguration scanning, code security and SAST, secrets detection, and end-of-life software tracking. Each DAST finding carries a CWE, severity, confidence score, and a recommended solution you can hand to an AI coding agent.

Compliance: two different meanings
When Qualys says compliance, it usually means configuration compliance: checking that systems are hardened against benchmarks such as CIS, and reporting on it. That is valuable and Qualys does it well.
When an auditor says SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance, they mean the whole control set: policies, risk assessment, onboarding and offboarding, training, access reviews, vendor management, incident response, and change management, plus evidence for each. Configuration checks are one slice.
SecureSlate covers the whole set. Multi-framework control mapping, automated evidence collection, policies, access reviews, vendor risk, risk management, a trust center, and audit management are in the platform. Scan findings sit next to the controls they satisfy, and auto-remediation agents fix common failures in the source system and log the action as evidence.
| SecureSlate | Qualys | |
|---|---|---|
| Configuration benchmark checks | π Cloud configuration | π’ |
| Full SOC 2 and ISO 27001 control set | π’ | π΄ |
| Evidence collection across HR, identity, code | π’ | π΄ |
| Policies, vendor risk, access reviews | π’ | π΄ |
| Audit management and trust center | π’ | π΄ |
Ease of use and time to value
Qualys is powerful and broad, and that breadth has a cost: deploying agents, configuring scanners, tuning scan profiles, and working through large result sets takes a trained team. Organizations that already have that team get a lot from it.
SecureSlate is built for teams without one. Your primary domain is scanned automatically at signup, so findings exist before setup is finished. Cloud accounts connect through a guided read-only wizard (AWS, GCP). Repeated issues are grouped into one finding with its instances listed, so the list stays readable.
| SecureSlate | Qualys | |
|---|---|---|
| First scan without configuration | π’ At signup | π Requires setup |
| Guided cloud connection | π’ | π’ |
| Duplicate findings grouped | π’ | π’ |
| Suited to teams without a security analyst | π’ | π |
Pricing
Qualys prices by quote and by module, with cost tied to the number of assets, applications, and modules you enable. Vulnerability management, web application scanning, cloud security, and patch management can each be separate line items.
SecureSlate publishes pricing. Vulnerability scanners are included from the Pro plan at $4,788 per year, with a compliance framework, automated control testing, and access reviews. Ultra at $8,500 per year adds a penetration test and a framework audit. See pricing or the savings calculator.

Where Qualys wins
Vulnerability management depth. Agent-based scanning, a deep vulnerability knowledge base, and threat-based prioritization across thousands of assets. SecureSlate does not compete here.
Configuration hardening. CIS benchmark and policy compliance checks across operating systems and devices are a long-standing Qualys strength.
Patch management. Detecting a vulnerability and deploying the patch from the same platform shortens remediation for IT teams.
Enterprise scale and history. Qualys has served large enterprises and regulated industries for many years, which matters in enterprise procurement.
Who each platform is for
Choose SecureSlate if
- You need SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA and want scanning built into that program.
- Your exposure is mainly a SaaS application, its domains, code, and cloud account.
- You need findings and evidence without hiring someone to run a vulnerability platform.
Choose Qualys if
- You manage many endpoints and servers that need CVE scanning and patching.
- You need configuration hardening checks across operating systems and devices.
- You have a security team to operate the platform and your compliance program lives elsewhere.
FAQ
Is SecureSlate a Qualys alternative?
For SaaS teams that need a compliance program plus application, code, and cloud scanning, yes. For enterprises that need agent-based vulnerability management, patching, and configuration hardening across large estates, Qualys is the stronger product.
Is SecureSlate a Qualys VMDR alternative?
Not directly. VMDR scans endpoints and servers for known vulnerabilities. SecureSlate scans live web applications, cloud accounts, and code. If host scanning is in your audit scope, use a tool like VMDR alongside SecureSlate.
Does Qualys handle SOC 2?
Qualys provides vulnerability and configuration evidence that supports parts of a SOC 2 audit. It does not manage policies, access reviews, vendor risk, or the full control set, so most teams pair it with a compliance platform.
Can I use Qualys and SecureSlate together?
Yes. Upload Qualys reports to the SecureSlate data room so they sit next to the vulnerability management controls they support.
Which is cheaper?
SecureSlate publishes pricing from $4,788 per year for plans that include scanning. Qualys is quote-based by module. For compliance plus application scanning, SecureSlate usually costs less. Compare written quotes for the same scope.
Is this comparison biased?
It is published by SecureSlate, so treat it as a vendor's argument. SecureSlate claims link to documentation, and the areas where Qualys is stronger are named in Where Qualys wins.
