Connecting SecureSlate & Hexnode

SecureSlate connects to Hexnode UEM (formerly Hexnode MDM) through the Hexnode REST API, using read-only access. We retrieve enrolled devices, user accounts, and configured policies to populate MDM inventory and run automated endpoint compliance tests. SecureSlate does not push device commands, deploy apps, or modify any configuration in your Hexnode portal.

To use this integration, you need your Hexnode portal subdomain and a Hexnode API key.

What SecureSlate syncs

Data Where it appears Purpose
Enrolled devices Asset ManagementOthersComputers (MDM) Inventory devices with name, serial number, model, OS version, compliance status, assigned user, and last check-in
User accounts Used by automated tests Evaluate user coverage and device attribution
Policies Used by automated tests Evaluate encryption, passcode, malware, password manager, and MFA policy coverage

SecureSlate also creates a Hexnode vendor record under Vendor Risk when you connect.

Automated controls and tests

Once connected, SecureSlate runs automated tests against your synced Hexnode data covering device compliance, endpoint policy coverage (encryption, passcode, anti-malware, password manager, MFA), inventory completeness, and user attribution.

These tests support Access, Computers, and Inventory use cases mapped to frameworks such as ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2.

Prerequisites

Before you connect SecureSlate, confirm you have:

  • Administrator access to your Hexnode portal so you can enable API access and generate an API key.
  • Your Hexnode portal subdomain — the part before .hexnodemdm.com or .uem.hexnode.com in your portal URL (for example, mycompany from mycompany.hexnodemdm.com).
  • Permission to create integrations in SecureSlate (typically Admin).

Enable API access and generate an API key

Enable API access in Hexnode

  1. Sign in to your Hexnode portal as an administrator.
  2. Go to AdminAPI.
  3. If API access is not already enabled, turn it on.

Generate an API key

  1. On the same AdminAPI page, click Generate API Key (or Add API Key).
  2. Give the key a name you will recognize, for example SecureSlate Read-Only.
  3. Save the key.
  4. Copy the API key immediately — Hexnode may only show the full value once.

Store the key securely (for example, in your password manager). You will paste it into SecureSlate in the next section.

Important: SecureSlate only reads from Hexnode. It does not issue device commands, deploy apps, or change any configuration in your portal.

Connect Hexnode to SecureSlate

Open the integration

  1. In SecureSlate, open Integrations from the left sidebar.
  2. Go to the Available tab.
  3. Search for Hexnode.
  4. Click Connect on the Hexnode card.

Review the integration details:

  • Category: Device management (MDM)
  • Use cases: Access, Computers, Inventory
  • Permissions: Read-only access to device inventory, user accounts, and policy compliance status via the Hexnode API
  • Access type: API key + portal subdomain

Enter your credentials

  1. Continue through the setup flow to Connect Hexnode to SecureSlate.
  2. In Portal Subdomain, enter just the subdomain — for example mycompany (not the full URL). SecureSlate handles both .hexnodemdm.com and .uem.hexnode.com portals automatically.
  3. In API Key, paste the key you generated in Hexnode.
  4. Click Connect.

SecureSlate validates the key against your Hexnode portal, fetches your data, and syncs devices into inventory.

Note: To change credentials later, disconnect Hexnode and reconnect with the new key.

Verify the integration

After a successful connection:

  • The Hexnode integration appears under Connected on the Integrations page.
  • Devices sync to Asset ManagementOthersComputers (MDM).
  • A Hexnode vendor entry is created under Vendor Risk.
  • Automated tests begin running against the synced data.

Initial sync time depends on how many devices are in your Hexnode portal.

Disconnecting Hexnode

If you disconnect Hexnode from SecureSlate:

  • The integration and API key are removed.
  • Synced device assets are removed from Asset Management.
  • The Hexnode vendor record is removed from Vendor Risk.
  • Hexnode automated tests are removed from your workspace.

Troubleshooting

If the connection fails or data does not appear:

  • Portal not found — Confirm you entered only the subdomain (for example mycompany), not the full URL. Verify the same subdomain works when you sign in to Hexnode in a browser.
  • Invalid API key — Regenerate the key in AdminAPI in Hexnode and reconnect. Also confirm API access is turned on for your portal.
  • Missing devices — Confirm the devices are actually enrolled in Hexnode. Devices that are pending enrollment or wiped will not appear.
  • Owner column shows blank — Assign the device owner manually in Asset Management.
  • Test results out of date — Disconnect and reconnect Hexnode to trigger a fresh sync.

Invalid or random text entered as an API key will not connect — SecureSlate validates the key with Hexnode before saving the integration.
