SecureSlate Device Agent

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about privacy, permissions, and how the SecureSlate Device Agent runs on your computer.

Does the Agent read my personal files or browsing history?

No. It only performs the five read-only checks described in Data collection. Nothing else on your device is accessed.

Can the Agent change settings on my computer, or lock/wipe my device?

No. The Agent only reads whether controls are in place. It never changes a setting, and it cannot lock or wipe your device. If a check fails, it points you to where you can fix it yourself.

Do I need admin/administrator rights to use it?

Not for most checks. The one exception is disk encryption on Windows,
which Windows only reports to administrators. See
Troubleshooting.

You may also need admin rights to change a failing setting on your
computer, the same as you would without the Agent installed.

How often does it check my device?

Automatically while you are signed in. You can also run a check at any time from the Agent menu.

What happens if I sign out?

Checks stop, and results are no longer reported, until you sign back in.

Does it slow down my computer?

No. Each check is brief, and the Agent uses very little of your computer's resources in between.

Is it available for Linux?

Not yet. See Setup for the current alternative (manual evidence upload).

How do I get the latest version?

See Do I need to reinstall to get updates? in Troubleshooting.
